There are many different Community and UnitingCare Australia support events and programs located throughout Melbourne's East. 

Boroondara Community Outreach

An outreach ministry/service of the Uniting Church under the Presbytery of Yarra Yarra. It supports people who are socially isolated and disadvantaged living in Boroondara and offers:

  • Pastoral care and support 
  • Emergency relief assistance – food, clothing and more
  • Assistance to access services that address issues of housing, health, legal, etc.
  • Advocacy with utility companies, Centrelink etc.
  • Social activities – community dances, women’s group, drop-ins, outings to a variety of leisure and social activities
  • A lunch on Christmas day

Good Grub

Good Grub offers a free 3-course lunch and great company for people who live in Boroondara and live in housing that does not provide any food. Come along for a nutritious meal, a chance to meet with others and with some vegetables and fruit to take home. The coordinator is available to assist people in need either herself or by referral to other services.

Church Service and BBQ Tea/Fellowship

This once-a-month service takes place in the Church Hall. It is a simple, brief service (45 minutes) that offers people a safe space to express their belief and disbelief. There is singing, candles are lit for prayers and a brief reflection is offered on a bible reading. This space is ideal for people who find traditional church difficult to engage with, either due to their illness, disability or attention span. A BBQ tea and supper is provided after.

  • Day/Time: 2nd Sunday of each month @ 5:00pm

Crossroads Victoria Programs

Crossroads Victoria is an interdenominational fellowship ministering to people with disability. Crossroads seeks to encourage individual growth socially, emotionally, educationally and spiritually. Its aim is to provide Christian fellowship and education for people of all ages with disability through regular branch activities which have spiritual, recreational, educational and social aspects, along with holiday activities such as bus tours and day trips to places of interest.

Balwyn Crossroads Branch:

When: 4th Tuesday evening of the month (February to November)
Time: 7:30 pm
Where: Parish Hall at St Stephen's Anglican Church, 1 Woodville Street, North Balwyn (corner Ardgour and Woodville Streets)
Activities: We gather as a large, multi-aged group who enjoy being together to explore ideas and sharing friendship. We participate in a program of celebration, movement and music, dining out and activities such as footy nights, craft and cultural evenings.

Burwood Heights Crossroads Branch:

When: 3rd Saturday of the month (excluding December and January)
Time: 2:30 to 4:30 pm (unless advised otherwise)
Where: Fellowship Room, Burwood Heights Uniting Church, 347 Blackburn Road, East Burwood (corner Burwood Highway & Blackburn Road)
Activities: On-site programs could include visits from service organisations (SE., Assistance Dogs, RSPCA), footy day, games, films, craft, gardening, cooking, entertainment. occasional off-site activities eg., October day trip, ten pin bowling at AMF (Forest Hill), celebratory lunch/afternoon tea for New Year or early Christmas.
