Come relax and share a walk with other carers

The Pathway for Carers project offers carers of people with a disability or a mental health issue, an opportunity to share walks with other carers and to learn more about news, services, supports available to carers. This is a FREE event for carers.

We offer five walks:

  • Maroondah Walk (Tuesday)
    Meet at: Torrente Cafe, 389 Maroondah Hwy Ringwood
    When: Every second Tuesday of the month commencing 9.30am
  • Yarra Ranges Walk
    Meet at: Mount Evelyn Community House, 50 Wray Cres, Mount Evelyn
    When: Every first Thursday of the month commencing 9.30am
  • Manningham Walk
    Meet at: Melissa Cakes Cafe, 65 Parker Street, Templestowe Lower
    When: Every third Thursday of the month commencing 10am
     
  • Boroondara Walk
    Meet at: Ashburton Pool and Recreation Centre, 8 Warner Ave, Ashburton
    When: Every fourth Wednesday of the month commencing 9.30am

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs):

Do I need to RSVP for the Pathways to Carers? No, you can just arrive on the day.

Do I need to attend all the walks, or can I just show up to walks that are suitable for me? You are not committed to attend all the walks, come when you can. You are welcome to attend just one walk, two walks, or all five walks.

Is there a cost to come on the walk? No, the walk is free for carers.

What do I need to bring? A water bottle, sunscreen and comfortable shoes.

How far can I expect to walk? No more than 5km, the walks will take approximately 1 hour.

What happens if I can’t finish the walk? Carers are encouraged to participate to any distance they feel comfortable.

Do I need to live in either the Shire of Yarra Ranges, Manningham or Maroondah council to participate? No, all carers are welcome to participate

Am I able to bring the person I care for on the walk with me? No, the walk is designed to give carers a break from their caring role.

What happens if I need someone to look after the person I care for? You can contact the Commonwealth Respite and Carelink Centre for respite assistance on 1800 052 222. UnitingCare lifeAssist can also help you with respite.

Can I bring a partner or friend on the walk? The walk is specifically for Carers, but if you know someone in a caring role who will benefit from the program then you are welcome to invite them. Partners who share the caring role are welcome to join.

Can I bring my child in a stroller? Yes, but due to safety reasons they must remain in a stroller for the duration of the walk.

Can I bring my dog on the walk? No, for safety reasons we request that you do not bring your pets.

What happens in extreme weather conditions? If it is very hot, or very wet it is likely that the walk will be cancelled. Check the facebook page on the day of the walk.
